Sight is one of our most valuable senses. At Montgomery & Riddle Eyecare, we understand that LASIK isn’t a “one size fits all” procedure. We are dedicated to helping every patient who walks through our doors. LASIK surgery may not be the answer but there are alternatives that can help a patient improve their eyesight.
One of our highly trained surgeons will perform a thorough evaluation of the eyes to decide which procedure is best for you. We will take the time to educate you on how the procedure is performed and what to expect after surgery.
Some alternative to LASIK are:
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), is a refractive procedure in which a laser is used to help correct the vision. An excimer laser is used on the cornea to help correct the refractive error or decrease the dependency of glasses or contacts. The PRK re-scuplts the shape of the cornea so that the light can reach the retina. During PRK the epithelium, the top layer of the cornea, are removed. With the epithelium removed, a laser can be directed at the underlying corneal tissue which can then be re-modified to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. Once the cornea has been changed a contact is placed over the eye so healing can take place, normally taking up to a week for the cornea to heal.
